Kayla Boller, a senior at Cedar Park Christian, just got back from the FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. The team won Finalist Award (Silver Medal) in the Curie Division, which was the highest achievement by all of the 152 PNW teams at this year’s championship. The team is ranked in the top 16 teams among nearly 3000 robotics teams worldwide.

The road to get to Worlds was not a walk in the park. Cedar Park Robotics (CPR) had their minds focused on the World Championship many months ago. It all started when the Washington First Robotics League announced this seasons “game.” Once CPR received the instructions for the game, the team worked tirelessly over a 6 week time period to design and build a robot capable of winning the competitions. Once the robot was fully designed and built, CPR competed in tournaments around the state. At these tournaments, CPR’s hard work and intricate robotic design paid off, winning matches time and time again. The top 64 percent of the Washington and Oregon teams competed in the PNW District Championship. With this quickly approaching, CPR was even more determined on being the best, all while displaying God’s love. Kayla Boller, one of the team’s captains, commented, “It felt nice to see our hard work and dedication come together come match time.”

While Robotics is a fun, social activity, it can also greatly help with college. “Over $113,000 in scholarship money has been given out in the field of Robotics,” says Kayla, “Not only does Robotics help a person get into college, but it also helps college graduates get the job of their dreams.” In St. Louis, CPR went head-to-head against some of the best Robotics teams in the world, and all the while, the team knew that no matter what the outcome, giving glory to God is still the most important.
